This summer, the New Hampshire Natural
Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with
the Student Conservation Association (SCA) allowing us to partner and bring
their conservation-based interns to assist New Hampshire NRCS. SCA is based in
Charlestown, New Hampshire and provides opportunities for students to gain hands-on
education and work experience with natural resource agencies throughout the
United States.

The New Hampshire NRCS has recently added the second of three expected SCA interns to
serve 12-month internships in the Durham State Office. Chris Powles arrived
on September 24th and will be serving as an Assistant Resource
Conservation and Development
Coordinator working with New Hampshire’s two Resource Conservation and
Development (RC&D) Coordinators.
Chris recently graduated (June ’07) with a Bachelor of Arts degree with a
major in Biology and a minor in Psychology. He attended Ohio Wesleyan
University, which is a small university located in Delaware, Ohio. While
attending Ohio Wesleyan University, Chris was a member of PetPals which is
an organization that offered services to the local humane society as well as
other animal shelters. Last summer Chris spent 4 months studying abroad in
Australia. Other interests include golf, soccer and reading. Chris was
born and raised in a small suburb outside of Cleveland, Ohio where he and
his family have lived his entire life.
