Richard P. Ellsmore Appointed New Hampshire State Conservationist
After
25 years with the NRCS, Rick Ellsmore has been chosen to lead the NRCS in New
Hampshire as its State Conservationist.
Rick returned to the New Hampshire
NRCS in November of 2008 as the Assistant State Conservationist for Operations
after working as a State Resource Conservationist in Ohio for three years.
Rick began his career with
the NRCS in
1985 as a Student Trainee Soil Conservationist. His other positions with the
agency include Soil Conservationist and District Conservationist in several
locations in Maine and New Hampshire, along with serving on National
Headquarters details including: the National Efficiency Team, East Region
Technology Workgroup, 2008 Farm Bill Team, and a 60-day detail on the Programs
Staff. During his Ohio tenure, he served as the State Resource
Conservationist with responsibility for the State Technical Committee, Practice
Payment Schedules, Technical Quality Assurance, Technical Service Providers, and
Conservation Planning Training and Certification. He also served as the
technical contact for Contribution Agreements. As the NH ASTC For
Operations, Rick was responsible for supervising the field District
Conservationists and RC&D Coordinators, creating and monitoring the NH Business
Plan, State Quality Assurance Plan, and Annual Performance Goals.
Rick grew up in Eastern Maine and received a Bachelor of Science degree in
Forestry from the University of Maine. His personal interests include coaching
and playing sports, hiking, movies, travel, reading, and the outdoors. He
resides in Nottingham with his wife, Denise, and two daughters, Erika and
Nicole.
