Rick
Ellsmore meets with members of
the
National Society of Black Engineers
New Hampshire NRCS State
Conservationist, Rick Ellsmore, met with the UNH chapter of the
National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) on February 8, 2012 in
Durham, NH. With more than 29,900 members, the NSBE is one of the
largest student-governed organizations in the country and includes more
than 394 College, Pre-College, and Technical Professional/Alumni
chapters in the United States and abroad.
During the meeting, Rick spoke about
the NRCS’s mission, history, and goals, which include developing a
diverse workforce. Rick also highlighted various career opportunities
with the agency and showed several completed
EQIP,
WHIP, and
EWP projects involving professional engineering designs. Kevin
Farmer, NRCS State Conservation Engineer for Rhode Island,
discussed his positions with the NRCS, including being an entry-level
engineer, and various other jobs across six states. Lee Green, shared
his experiences working in three states as a conservation planner and
currently as the District Conservationist in Concord, NH.
The National Society of Black
Engineers is a 501(C)(3) non-profit association that is owned and
managed by its members. The organization is dedicated to the academic
and professional success of African-American engineering students and
professionals. NSBE’s mission is "to increase the number of
culturally responsible black engineers who excel academically, succeed
professionally and positively impact the community."

Ranking cut off dates for applications for the following initiatives
are March 31, and June 1, 2012:
EQIP Energy Initiative
This initiative
provides financial opportunities for producers to address on-farm energy
conservation through practice implementation and for development of
energy conservation plans.
EQIP Organic Initiative
This assistance helps
producers plan and implement conservation practices to allow their
organic operations to be environmentally sustainable.
EQIP Seasonal High Tunnel Initiative
The Seasonal High Tunnel
Initiative is a voluntary program that provides financial and technical
assistance to agricultural producers. The goal of the initiative is to
assist producers to extent the growing season for high value crops in an
environmentally safe manner.
