NRCS New Hampshire Gets The Word Out
Over four days in
December, NRCS employees Donna Doel, Chad Cochrane, Rachael Phillips-Tibbetts, Brandon
Smith, Betty Anderson, and SCA Interns Honor Lawler, Kelly Eggleston, and Misty
Emerick, took turns staffing a booth, along with Diane Petit from Massachusetts,
at the New
England Fruit
and Vegetable Conference in Manchester, NH. In
January, the NRCS and the NH RC&Ds, co-hosted the Farm Energy Conference
along with th e NH Coalition for Sustainable Agriculture, Merrimack County
Conservation District, and numerous other partners. The session featured the
importance of farm energy, a description of the energy audit process, and a
brief overview of available energy incentives. Carol Drungil, Rachael
Phillips-Tibbetts, and Chad Cochrane spoke on a range of topics
including: Conservation Activity Plans, the Agricultural Energy Management Plan,
Technical Service Providers, and energy-related conservation practices.
In February, NRCS NH folks were back at the Manchester Conference Center for the
Farm and Forest Exposition. Carol Drungil again spoke about energy-related
conservation practices while Honor Lawler, Jeremy Lougee and Pam Failing gave
out information to hundreds of visitors over two days about Farm Bill Programs
and the upcoming Grazing Conference that will be held March 6 from 8:00 a.m. to
4:00 p.m. at Southern NH University in Manchester, NH. The Grazing Conference
is sponsored by the NRCS, UNH Cooperative Extension, the Granite State Graziers
and the NH RC&Ds. Registration forms should be mailed by February
20th, and are available at the NRCS State Office. Also
this month, Brandon Smith is speaking about agricultural season extension
through the use of high tunnels, to a group of about 100 at
the Organics Producers Workshop hosted by UNH Cooperative Extension
on February 10th in Plymouth, NH.
