New Hampshire NRCS Conservation Programs

If you own or manage farm or forest land, or grow specialty crops in New Hampshire, then the 2008 Farm Bill conservation programs can help you address natural resource concerns and opportunities on your land.  Participation in all of our conservation programs is voluntary. Participant requirements and eligibility vary by program.  NRCS en Español

NRCS Farm Bill Programs established through the 2008 Farm Bill:

 Financial Assistance Programs Description Who Should Apply
AMA - Agriculture Management Assistance Program Reduces the economic risk of adopting new conservation measures that address water management, water quality, and erosion control. Agricultural producers with priority for limited resource, beginning, or full-time farmers.
CIG (National) - Conservation Innovation Grants Competitive grants up to $1 million to stimulate the development and adoption of innovative conservation approaches and technologies on agricultural lands. State and local unites of government, producer associations, farmer cooperatives, institutions of higher education, and nongovernmental organizations.
CIG (State) -Conservation Innovation Grants  Competitive grants up to $75,000 to stimulate the development and adoption of innovative conservation approaches and technologies on agricultural lands in New Hampshire. Individuals, state and local units of government, producer associations, farmer cooperatives, institutions of higher education, and nongovernmental organizations.
CSP - Conservation Stewardship Program Rewards farmers and foresters who are good conservation stewards of their land, and offers compensation for enhancements. Agricultural producers who have already adopted conservation strategies on their farms.
EQIP - Environmental Quality Incentives Program Financial assistance to install permanent measures, adopt new management strategies, or develop activity plans for a wide range of resource concerns. Agricultural producers with existing resource concerns.
EQIP - Organic Initiative
 
Assists producers plan and implement conservation practices that allow their organic operations to be environmentally sustainable. Farmers who are certified organic, transitioning to certified organic, or organic exempt according to USDA’s National Organic Program regulations
WHIP - Wildlife Habitat Incentive Program Create or enhance high quality wildlife habitats that support targeted wildlife populations of national, state, and local significance. Owners or managers of non-industrial private forest land, agricultural land or land that is capable of being farmed, who are interested in enhancing wildlife opportunities.
 

Easement Programs

Description Who Should Apply
FRPP - Farm and Ranch Lands Protection Program Helps land conservation-focused partners assist farmers in keeping their land in agriculture through the purchase of development rights. State, local and non-profit entities with existing farm protection programs who demonstrate the staff and financial resources necessary to manage and enforce conservation easements.
GRP - Grassland Reserve Program Provides financial assistance to restore and protect private grasslands, pasturelands, and certain other lands while maintaining the areas in grass. Agricultural producers with existing grasslands or pasture interesting in long-term commitments to maintain or enhance the grasslands.
WRP - Wetlands Reserve Program Promotes the protection and restoration of wetlands through the purchase of easements and enhancement activities. Landowners interested in restoration or long-term protection of lands previously modified by draining or filling.
WREP - Wetlands Reserve Enhancement Program A component of the Wetlands Reserve Program, under WREP, NRCS enters into agreements with eligible partners to target and leverage resources to carry out high-priority wetland protection, restoration, and enhancement activities and improve wildlife habitat on eligible lands Only States, local units of government, Indian Tribes and non-governmental organizations are eligible to submit a proposal and enter into agreements with NRCSWREP partners are required to contribute matching financial or technical assistance.
